Why is there so much animal abuse in the south and midwest? ?

What is going on with these kids that think it's ok to beat up an animal? Is something wrong with them and their parents that they allow this to happen? Huckabee had a son that abused a stray dog and had the nerve to almost defend it. I don't understand the mentality that exists. Animal abuses happen everywhere but it seems predominantly down south and in the midwest.
